چکیده

Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of frostbite on feet using Cell Alive System (CAS) freezer with an oscillating magnetic field. We recently reported the application of the CAS freezer to the cryopreservation of various tissues, but did not evaluate the effects of frostbite after freezing. In order to characterize how a freezer with a magnetic field affects frostbite, we observed changes using laser Doppler blood flow measurements, X-ray imaging, and tissue specimens from mouse feet. Methods: Mice were divided into 3 groups: a group without freezing, a group in which a foot was frozen in the bath of the CAS freezer for 10 minutes, with preliminary cooling to -32°C using ethylene glycol, and a group in which a foot was frozen by holding it under dry ice for 10 minutes. Results: The results obtained showed that the CAS freezer inhibited freezing-induced damage of the cell cytoskeleton and circulatory disorders 10 days after freezing. Furthermore, the CAS freezer reduced bone deformation after freezing. Conclusions: These results suggest that the CAS freezer prevented frostbite associated with tissue freezing. These rose it’s may potentially lead to the development of novel methods for cryopreservation.

Tendon Healing with Allogenic Fibroblast and Static Magnetic Field in Rabbit Model

Objectives- Tendons are integral parts of musculoskeletal system and are subjected to injury. Fibroblast is used in tendon healing, however, there is no proved and reported result regarding concurrent use of allogenic fibroblast with static magnetic field in tendon healing. In addition, there are some studies done on the effect of magnetic fields on tendon healing but the results are antithesis...

Frostbite: prevention and initial management.

Frostbite is a local freezing injury that can cause tissue loss. Historically, it has been a disease of wars, but it is a hazard for anyone who ventures outdoors in cold weather. Frozen tissue is damaged both during freezing and rewarming. Frozen tissue is numb. Rewarming causes hyperemia and is often painful. Blisters and edema develop after rewarming. Hard eschar may form with healthy tissue ...

Frostbite Protection in Mice Expressing an Antifreeze Glycoprotein

Ectotherms in northern latitudes are seasonally exposed to cold temperatures. To improve survival under cold stress, they use diverse mechanisms to increase temperature resistance and prevent tissue damage. The accumulation of anti-freeze proteins that improve cold hardiness occurs in diverse species including plants, arthropods, fish, and amphibians. We previously identified an Ixodes scapular...

Windchill and the risk of tissue freezing.

Low air temperatures and high wind speeds are associated with an increased risk of freezing of the exposed skin. P. A. Siple and C. F. Passel (Proc. Am. Phil. Soc. 89: 177-199, 1945) derived their windchill index from cooling experiments on a water-filled cylinder to quantify the risk of frostbite. Their results are reexamined here. It is found that their windchill index does not correctly desc...
